Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association of the Kampung Bunga program with accelerating stunting reduction in Central Lampung Regency.

METHODOLOGY: A cross-sectional study was conducted from May 2025 to February 2026 involving 563 children aged 0–59 months in Central Lampung Regency. The stunting group comprised 138 children, while the non-stunting group comprised 425 children. The sample was recruited using a multistage cluster sampling technique. We used anthropometric measurements, structured questionnaires, and maternal health records for data collection. We measured and calculated clinical nutritional indicators, including height-for-age z-scores (HAZ), weight-for-age z-scores (WAZ), and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC). Maternal-related risk factors included education level, antenatal care (ANC) attendance, exclusive breastfeeding practices, and nutritional status during pregnancy. Community health intervention variables included participation in Kampung Bunga program activities. Chi-square tests, independent t- tests, and multivariate logistic regression were performed as appropriate for the data, with statistical significance set at P < 0.05.

RESULTS: The prevalence of stunting was lower among program participants (18.3%) than among the non-participants (31.7%; P < 0.001). Multivariate analysis found that Kampung Bunga participation (AOR = 0.42; 95% CI: 0.28–0.63), complete ANC visits (AOR = 0.51; 95% CI: 0.34–0.76), exclusive breastfeeding (AOR = 0.47; 95% CI: 0.31–0.71), and higher maternal education were identified as significant protective factors against stunting (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSION: Stunting prevalence was significantly lower among participants of the integrated community-based nutritional intervention. We recommend scaling up this intervention alongside continued strengthening of maternal education and antenatal care services to accelerate stunting reduction.
